Biography
The award-winning actress popularly known as Kajol was born in Mumbai to a family tree with a long history in Indian cinema. Her mother, Tanuja, is a renowned award-winning actress while her father Shomu Mukherjee is a film producer. Her late maternal aunt, Nutan, holds the record for the most (5) Filmfare Awards for Best Actress. Kajol's cousins Rani Mukherjee, Sharbani Mukherjee, and Mohnish Behl are also Bollywood actors. Kajol began her career at the young age of seventeen with the 1992 film "Bekhudi." The next year, she shot to fame with "Baazigar," opposite Shahrukh Khan. She later went on to have great on screen chemistry with Khan, pairing with him in a number of box office successes. She won the BFJA Best Actress Award for her performance in the box-office failure, "Udhaar Ki Zindagi." She earned her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination for her performance in the romantic drama "Yeh Dillagi." Kajol received her first Filmfare Best Actress Award for "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" in 1995. She became the first woman to win the Filmfare Best Villain Award in 1997 for her performance in "Gupt: The Hidden Truth." In 1998, she won her first Star Screen Award Best Actress for "Dushman" and her second Filmfare Best Actress Award for "Kush Kush Hota Hai." In 1999, she married actor Ajay Devgan. In 2001, Kajol won her third Filmfare Best Actress Award and second Star Screen Award Best Actress for her performance in "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham." She then took a sabbatical from full-time acting for five years. In 2003, she gave birth to daughter Nysa. In 2006, she made a successful comeback with "Fanaa," for which she earned her fourth Filmfare Best Actress Award. Kajol has appeared as a guest on "Kaun Banega Crorepati," where she and husband Ajay Devgan won one crore rupees and donated them to a cancer hospital in Chennai.
